  Aim
To provide an opportunity for Club sailing and motor yachts to race or cruise in company from Port Klang to Pulau Pangkor, and enjoy the delights of the islands and social camaraderie.

  Format
The Regatta comprises a passage race from Port Klang to Sembilan Islands, an inter-port Platu race between RSYC and RMNYC, and a day race around the Pulau Pangkor group. Non-racers are invited to cruise in company from Port Klang to Pangkor, and join the sailors for diving, snorkeling and beach partying. There will be an all-comers evening party on Pulau Pangkor on 30th Aug and a gala prize-giving party on Pulau Pangkor Laut on 31st Aug.

  Entry
The Regatta is open to all comers from the peninsula, and invitations have been sent to affiliated yacht clubs from Langkawi to Singapore. An entry fee of RM150 per boat will be charged, to defray the costs of organizing the event. Yacht owners/skippers are requested to complete the attached Entry Form and return it to the Sailing Office at RSYC as soon as possible.

  Berths & Anchorages
Visiting yachts will enjoy free pontoon berths at RSYC for 7 days prior to the start of the Regatta. Alongside berths at Pangkor Laut Resort are limited to 4 short pontoons behind the new breakwater and will be made available on a first-come-first-in basis for yachts whose crews are taking villas at the Resort. The new marina on Pulau Mentangor, north of Pangkor Laut, is not yet operational, and has no services available. Other boats may anchor in Pasir Bogak. Boats are encouraged to take their own tenders and help each other out with transfers to shore. Pangkor Laut Resort will provide its own boat for its guests on call. Hiring sampans is an option, but can be expensive!

Pangkor Laut Resort is offering hill/garden villas at RM530 a day. Reservations should be made early to avoid disappointment to travelcentre@ytlhotels.com.my or by phone to 03 2145 9000, quoting the RSYC Merdeka Regatta 2008. Contacts are Yanna & Saad.

  Individual Sailors
Skippers offering spare berths and individual sailors looking for berths should register their requirements at the Club Office. Club Staff and Sailing Committee will assist in join-ups.

  Non-Boating Friends
Friends wishing to join in may drive to Lumut (3 hours from KL) and catch a ferry to Pangkor. Cars may be left in the paying car parks or at Lumut International Yacht Club. There are several ferry operators and half-hourly ferries run from 0700 until 2100. Pangkor Laut Resort runs its own complimentary ferry service for guests.

  Programme
A detailed programme will be issued to all participants prior to the Regatta, together with Notices of Race and Sailing Instructions for the races.

  Safety
The organizers will accept no responsibility for accidents involving participating yachts and their crews and guests. Individuals participate at their own risk, and owners are to arrange adequate marine insurance cover for the period (the Club can assist in arranging this). An escort vessel from the Royal Marine Police has been requested to assist during the Regatta, both at sea and in the anchorage. All racing sailing yachts are to be equipped to OSR Category 3 Safety Standard for the passage race from Port Klang to Pangkor. Cruising yachts (sail and motor) are to be equipped to an equivalent safety standard, which includes VHF radio. Yachts joining in for the day races are to be equipped to Category 4.
