Team Gapurna Malaysia was created in November 2006, as a platform to establish a National Keelboat Sailing Team for Malaysia, using youth sailors who were, or had been part of the National Dinghy Sailing teams, and also young Malaysians who were new to the sport. The squad was funded thanks to the generous support of GAPURNA GROUP, who have provided funding through to the end of 2008 for the project. The teams sailing within the programme come from all over Malaysia, with the top end of the squad representing their Nation at both fleet and match racing regattas in the Austral-Asia region. Recent successes for the team include selection to represent Malaysia at the 2007 SEA Games in Pattaya, Thailand, and also selection to participate in the Monsoon Cup 2007 at Terengannu, Malaysia.
