This 2 day course provides a short introduction to yacht sail cruising for beginners.
By the end of the course, you will have experienced steering a yacht, sail handling,
rope work and will be aware of safety onboard a sailing yacht.
The
Competent Crew course is a 5 day sailing programme which introduces the complete
beginner to sail cruising. The course teaches personal safety, seamanship
and helmsmanship to the level required to be a useful member of the crew of a
sail cruising yacht.
The
SailingAcademy’s “Day
Skipper” practical course is conducted onboard a sail cruising yacht in
tidal waters. The course will teach the practical elements of pilotage,
navigation, seamanship and boat handling to a standard required to enable you
to skipper a small cruising yacht safely by day in tidal waters that you are familiar
with. The Day Skipper course is a 5 day course.
This course
follows on from the Day Skipper course, and enhancing the lessons learned during
the earlier course, and teaches the skills and techniques required to skipper
a sail cruising yacht safely on both coastal and offshore passages by day and
night. The Coastal Skipper course is a 5 day course.
For
those experienced yachtsmen and women who aspire to becoming qualified as Yachtmasters,
the Academy offers a 5 day Yachtmaster Preparation course (optional) followed
by a 1 or 2 day examination (dependant on number of candidates for examination).
The examination is conducted by an independant Yachtmaster Examiner appointed
by the Royal Yachting Association. The examination will require the candidates
to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities by both day and night, using the
Academies Sail Training yacht.
