A
1 day, basic course in handling a power driven vessel. The course will be conducted
in a 5.5mtr Rigid Inflatable Boat (R.I.B.) with an outboard motor and will cover
simple exercises such as steering, leaving and approaching a pontoon berth and
a short session in the classroom.
The
course looks in detail at all aspects of boat handling in various conditions,
and will revisit the subjects taught in level 1. In addition, the course
will cover anchoring, various methods of bringing the vessel alongside, man overboard
recovery techniques and some onshore, classroom work. The course is run over two
days.
This
2 day training programme is designed for those power boaters who will be involved
in club or water based event rescue duties. The programme covers all aspects of
water based recovery from a power driven rescue boat and includes casualty handling
and management as part of the programme.
As
well as advanced boat handling techniques, this 2 day course includes a night
navigation exercise using electronic navigation equipment (GPS). Candidates
on this course are expected to have either completed the Day Skipper theory course,
or to be navigating to the standards expected on that course.
This
course is a combination of both classroom sessions and practical experience on
the water. The programme will introduce the newcomer to the various types of craft,
engines and power systems, safety and seamanship, rule of the road and boat handling
including man overboard recovery. The programme is run over a 4 day period.
The
Cruising Skipper course is taught onboard a motorcruiser and aims to teach the
practical aspects of boat pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling to
a standard which will allow the candidate to skipper a motor cruiser safely by
day, in tidal waters with which the candidate is familiar.
