OFFICIAL NOTICE FOR

RSYC /PENGAIL FISHING COMPETITION 2010

Finally , we will be having a competition that is more than once a year!!! 2010 is the start of a new decade and also a start of a new format for fishing competitions at the Club, in conjunction with, as usual, PENGAIL.

This year’s competition will be held over three rounds. Here are the dates:-

Round 1 .......... 22 & 23th MAY 2010
Round 2 .......... 25 & 26th September 2010
Grand Final ......18 & 19th December 2010

D’ont Panic! Relak-lah brudder. Read on .......
The first two rounds will be low key and friendly, with simple prizes, but more importantly, HONOUR (read that as bragging rights), and end with tea on the second day of competition. Scoring
The scoring will the same as in previous years, and will apply to all three rounds. For your easy reference, refer to attachment 1. However, only 20% of the points earned in the two earlier rounds will be carried forward to the Grand Final. Competitors are at liberty to enter all rounds or miss any of the earlier rounds, but must enter the Grand Final. No points will be awarded for any round missed. (Refer to attachment 2 for scoring carry-forward example).
Prizes
NO prizes will be awarded under the scoring system for the first two Rounds. Instead, in Round 1, prizes will be awarded for the biggest catch by weight (in-shore or off-shore doesn’t matter), in the following categories:-
1. Ray (pari)
2. Thread Fin (kurau/senohong)
3. Snapper, red or gold (jenahak/merah)
4. Thread fin , white (senangin)
5. Cat fish (sembilan)
6. Grouper (garupa)
7. Others (lain-lain)

The first six categories are common to both off-shore and in-shore with a slight bias for off-shore in cat.3, and the other way round in cat.5. Sharks, giant squids, etc., etc., including Malaysian submarines, but excluding rocks, corals, light houses etc. will come under cat.7. The scoring system will apply for cat.7 to determine the winner as we will be comparing different species.

Team competition
To promote closer ties between the two clubs, a “Team-event” will also be run simultaneously. As off-shore competitors tend to be largely RSYC and in-shore largely Pengail, by pairing off-shore to in-shore boats, a “Team” is formed. All members of the best team will be awarded prizes accordingly. There will be no carry forward of points for the team event as teams are paired by drawing lots in each round. A team can be made up of one RSYC boat plus two or three Pengail boats. The numbers in each boat is irrelevant as teams are drawn randomly and in any case numbers do not guarantee results. Each team is allowed to submit five (5) fishes for the weigh in and these can be the same fish submitted for individual scoring. The fish will be scored as per our standard scoring method. The team with the highest points will be the winner.
Prizes
The winners will get automatic entry to Round 2, without having to pay the entry fee or even to fill a form. They will also be awarded the RSYC/PENGAIL CHAMPIONS’ jacket which is NOT FOR SALE, personalised and exclusive to the Team category winners.

IMPORTANT Closing date:
All entries must be by the official Entry Form (available at RSYC office or PENGAIL office) signed by competitors and received by the RSYC office no later than 1200hrs (mid-day) on the 15th MAY 2010 (the Saturday before the competition weekend) in order to be included in the Team Draw, which will be held on the 16th MAY 2010. Late entries will still be accepted until 1200 hrs on FRIDAY 21st MAY 2010, but they will not be included in the Team Draw and so be left out of the Team Competition.
The team event is something new. We appeal to all fishermen to support this innovation to the format of the Fishing Competition.
Members unable to participate in this round can sign up for Round 2 and the Grand Final now or later, before the start of Round 2.

Rules: To be valid, all entries must be accompanied by the appropriate payments to cover the entry fee, which for Round 1 is RM5.00 (five).
A copy of the Rules of Competition will be given when entries are submitted to the RSYC office. The rules are more or less similar to last year’s.
